Why Did Humans Settle In Some Places and Why?

We settled in some areas where the sun was shining and it was warm, where there was no drought, where there was trees and resources for humans to settle. Where there was water. Where you could grow plants easily and where it was best. If we settled in Antarctica, we would probably freeze to death and in the Sahara Desert we would dehydrate. Living next to a volcano does mean nice agriculture, but look at what happened to the city of Pompeii. We didn't survive then. Humans are very specific creatures so picking the right place to settle has its requirements.
